Video Poker is a beloved game that can be played in casinos across the globe, or in your house on your PC, using a web account. The rules are very straightforward and consist of the player attempting to achieve the highest assemblage of cards as you can in order to come away with cash. In this respect it’s very similar as a normal game of poker, minus the interaction with other players. Of course, techniques employed during a physical game of poker, such as bluffing, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.
The game of Video Poker begins when the bettor inserts credits (either tokens, tickets or cash) into the machine and pushes the deal button. A 5 card hand will then be electronically ‘given out’ on the screen.
The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and enthusiasts should now decide which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the gambler wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they want, whether it’s all or none.
After the player has chosen which cards he would like to keep, they should press ‘deal’, which will mean that any fresh cards will be dealt if desired. The game is now finished, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the payment schedule.
Normally, the lowest winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It is obvious that the payment schedule can range from machine to machine, so that experienced bettors are able to select the most money-making game each time.
After the first round has finished, the player can either choose to stay on and try to to increase their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any cash that has been won. Further, some styles of the game allow the gambler an opportunity to increase their wins, in which case a further round is played. There are also differences between individual games, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other varying characteristics to increase playability.
