Video Poker is a popular game that is able to be bet on in casinos across the globe, or alternatively at your house on your PC, through an Internet connection. The game rules are very straightforward and consist of the player attempting to get the greatest combination of cards possible in order to acquire money. In this respect it is very similar as a normal game of poker, minus the line of contact with competing players. Of course, tactics employed during a physical game of poker, such as tricking, will be useless here.
The game of Electronic Poker starts when the bettor puts credits (whether it’s tokens, credit slips or money) into the machine and pushes the play button. A hand of five cards will be "distributed" on the screen.
The Video Poker game also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and gamblers will need to now decide which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the bettor would like to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they wish, from all to none.
After the bettor has selected which cards he or she wishes to retain, the player will then press ‘draw’, which will mean that any fresh cards will be given out if desired. The game is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands shown on the payout schedule.
Typically, the lowest succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money increasing for each and every better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It should be known that the payment schedule can change from machine to machine, so that knowledgeable bettors are agile enough to select the most profitable machine each instance.
After the initial round has finished, the player can either decide to remain on in an attempt to maximize their earnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any money that has been won. Additionally, a few versions of the game give the enthusiast an opportunity to increase their winnings, in which case a further hand is played. There are also differences between individual machines, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other differing elements to increase playability.
